Dear Preedy,
As promised, herewith a note on the
question of Chung Chi Cheung's nationality, dealing
inter alia with his birth-place, the status of the
leased territory, and double nationality
With regard to the apparent mis-statement
of the law in the Chief Justice's summing up
(page 54 of the record), I have been unable to
trace in the Hong Kong Criminal Procedure Ordinance,
or elsewhere in the local law, any statutory
provision on the question dealt with in the
Woolmington case such as is found in some Colonies,
and it seems that the decision should have been
followed.
A further search is being made here, and
I will, of course, let you know if anything is
discovered.
